The tales of a Podcast addict
If you enjoy a new story every time you listen, about a wide array of topics, then Criminal will be your new favorite podcast. It’s hard to compare Criminal to any other show, except maybe Serial. But where Serial follows one story for an entire season putting out hour long shows every 2 weeks, Criminal has a new topic each episode and they usually last between 15 to 30 min. Don’t get me wrong I love me some Serial but Criminal sparks my interest more because 3 out of every 4 stories on Criminal will be topics that most people have never heard of. News stories, that although really should be made clear and talked about, are not considered important enough to be broadcast on CNN.
Some stories are funny, and some are really heartwarming, while others can break your heart right in two. Host Phoebe Judge is fantastic, and though sometimes her questions are so brazen that they make me laugh, no one seems to mind. My favorite story to date was episode 35: Pen & Paper, Phoebe interviews a woman who pretty much invented courtroom sketching. The entire interview was so fun to listen to and learn about a pioneer in her profession. In the end the woman drew Phoebe and her reaction to it is what makes that episode one of my favorites.
Along with great stories and constant interviews, the podcast website is littered with super cool sketches for each episode. Julienne Alexander is the artist, and she really needs to start selling prints of these because they are really cool.
Clearly I am quite a fan of this podcast, but don't just take my word for it, I trust you'll be just as hooked as I am.
